Dr. Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela is an assistant professor in the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) program in the Department of Educational Administration. She received her Ph.D. in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and Masters in Labor and Industrial Relations from the same institution. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics (magna cum laude) from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society. |
Dr. Mabokela maintains an active research agenda in South Africa and the U.S. Her research interests include an examination of race, ethnicity and gender issues in post-secondary education; leadership issues among Black female faculty and administrators; and organizational culture and its impact on historically marginalized groups. Dr. Mabokela is the author of Voices of Conflict: Desegregating South African Universities (2001), which examines how academic programs and structures at historically White South African universities have been affected by, and have responded to changes in their undergraduate student populations. She is the co-editor (with Kimberly Lenease King) of Apartheid No More? Case Studies of Southern Africa Universities in the Process of Transformation (2001), which chronicles the divergent transformation experiences of institutions of higher education in South Africa and Namibia. She is also co-editor (with Anna L. Green) of Sisters of the Academy: Emergent Black Women Scholars in Higher Education (2001), which explores historical, social, cultural, political, and academic issues that affect Black women in the academy. As an emergent scholar, she has published articles in academic journals including The Review of Higher Education, Comparative Education, American Educational Research Journal, and the Journal of Negro Education, among others. She is a member of various professional organizations including the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). |
